About Safety Institute of Maryland
The Safety Institute of Maryland (SIMD) is a First Aid and CPR Training Center for the American Heart Association. We provide specialized CPR and First Aid training for marinas, boating clubs and both professional and recreational boating organizations. Our courses are approved by the U.S. Coast Guard and meet all CPR/First Aid requirements for Captain’s License. SIMD is an authorized distributor for all brands of AEDs.
The Safety Institute of Maryland provides training on Sail and Power Vessels, boat deliveries and tours of the Chesapeake Bay.
Capt. Alan Karpas, President of the Safety Institute of Maryland (SIMD), holds a U.S. Coast Guard 100 Ton Master License with Sail Endorsement. Captain Karpas is the Safety Coordinator for the Chesapeake Area Professional Captains Association (CAPCA) and SIMD is a member of Marine Trades Association of Maryland (MTAM).
